]]>I bet all of your seams are pretty great. But some could be even better through the process of grading to reduce bulk. Grading is especially useful when you have three or more layers of fabric in a seam.
Take this view of a graded back double-yoke seam in a Make a Point Dress. The bottom is the original 5/8 inch (1.5 cm) seam. The black in the middle has been graded to 3/8 inch (1 cm) and the top has been graded to less than 1/4 inch (.5 cm).
When these graded seams are pressed to one side, they will nest together nicely, reducing bulk.
Grade seams like a genius! Check out the latest Style Falcon Two-minute Tutorial on You Tube for more.
]]>The Gorgeous Godet Top is a quick and fun project. If you're new to sewing, need a little help, or just want to see how the top comes together, check out a series of YouTube videos for help and inspiration.
The videos come in 2- to 10-minute installments. They take you through the Gorgeous Godet Top project from start to finish:
Traditional sleeve plackets like the one on the right use six - count 'em SIX - folds and presses, plus other steps to achieve the look. While that's nice, who's got the time?
Other patterns fudge the placket by asking you to slash the sleeve vent and wrap the opening with a single, straight-cut placket. Quick and easy, maybe, but not a great finish.
The Style Falcon Make a Point Dress and Shirt placket comes in two pieces for easy sewing with the same results. Check out this two-minute video tutorial for more.
Now that you're a pro at plackets, why not try contrasting or bias-cut fabric to jazz up your Make a Point Dress some more?
Contrasting plackets instantly turn an ordinary shirt into something special - and they're a great use for fabric scraps.

Want to take a guess? Want to go count them? (OK, I'll wait...)
If you're like me, you have a lot of thread, in a lot of colors, for your sewing machine, serger, hand sewing, machine embroidery, bobbin weight, topstitching, upholstery... I could go on.
When it comes to colors especially, thread can get expensive and frustrating to match. It's not glamorous, but off-white thread can be your best friend on a sewing project. See my new YouTube Video for the story.
]]>Topstitching is a great way to add detail and polish to any garment. But sewers sometimes worry that all the extra work (and extra thread) isn't worth it. The latest Style Falcon YouTube video shows three easy ways to level up your topstitching game. Try these techniques to add detail to the Secret Jeans Trousers!
