How the Daring Duster Was Born

The Daring Duster pattern got its start with a vision at Grand Central Terminal in New York City. I was walking down the grand staircase to catch my train, when a woman in a light-colored long jacket caught my eye. The split back of her sheer-ish jacket draped and blew and moved with her as she dashed off to catch a train of her own. I started a sketch on my ride home that day to create a duster like that for Style Falcon.

I liked the idea of a light “third piece” that would make an outfit sing. It’s the kind of thing a lot of stylish women wear. Whether your taste runs whimsical, like Prue Leith (judge of the Great British Baking Show) or more tailored, like Diane Keaton, or elegant, like Helen Mirren, the duster can work for you.

Since this rough sketch, “Style 1202” has evolved to also include a long gilet-style vest in addition to a sleeve, which now has a vented cuff. There’s also a simple collar option. And pockets - of course!
