How the Ultimate Measuring Guide Works
You’ll start with circumference measurements. Then you’ll take “quarter body” measurements to see how your left and right, back and front differ. Next, you’ll take diagonal and curved measurements to capture these dimensions. Finally, you’ll take vertical measurements to assess height and length.
Measurements marked with * are especially useful for mature figures, as we tend to need more room in these areas as we age.
Materials ListYou will need:
- Several yards of ribbon, string or narrow elastic to mark body guideposts
- A flexible tape measure
- Chalk or about 20 safety pins for marking
- Paper and a pencil or pen to write down measurements
- A helper who can read a tape measure. Your helper doesn’t have to know anything about sewing. Anyone who can read a tape measure can help.
- About an hour to set up and take all the measurements.
This is a digital product for you to download and print or view on your own devices. No measuring guide will be mailed to you.
I have a forward shoulder, a sloped shoulder, rounded upper back and outward elbows causing twisted sleeve. I was delighted when the Gorgeous Godet only needed minimal adjustments to fit. It was a win-win.
I don't wear raglan sleeves but was drawn to the Positive Space Jacket pattern because of the adjustments built into Gorgeous Godet. I was hoping that the same mature body adjustments were built into the jacket pattern too. Unfortunately, after fighting the raglan sleeve for almost 2 months, I finally gave up and found a different pattern for my jacket. I was really hoping Style Falcon patterns were the way for me to go. But when I looked at a number of them, raglan sleeves seem to be in the majority. So, unfortunately, I probably will look elsewhere or use my bodice block and design my own.
This chart has changed my pattern revisions right from the start. I can measure the pattern areas prior to tracing now. It has allowed fitting old trouble areas so much easier to the point of fitting with minimal guessing. This guide covers it all. I'm so thankful to you for offering this well developed and thought out tool.
Thank you for this review - I'm so excited to hear that the guide has helped you so much!
Clear concise and easy to understand
Thanks for the review! I'm glad you liked it!
I plan on trying your patterns as soon as I have some ‘free’ money. Retirement has some pitfalls🥴
I would like to find some undie patterns for a person with an apron belly-at least I believe that is the term. I have tried to self draft a boyshort type undie but am not pleased with the results.
Anyway, if you want to expand your line try some undies please.
Take care, Mary M
Hi Mary, thanks for the feedback. I don't have any plans to offer lingerie patterns, but I will ask the rest of the Style Falcon Flock what they think. If they're interested, I'll get some patterns in development. I do hope you try a pattern sometime. Join our email list to get discounts and exclusive offers! - Diane
